Choosing the right rug for your bedroom

A bedroom is more than the place you go to sleep.  It’s a room that should feel like your sanctuary – a child free zone.  A place to read in peace.  A place to lie and contemplate the world.  A space to practice your new hair style.  The room you take
that private telephone call.
However, you use your bedroom, it’s important to choose the right rug.  Whether you have a carpeted or hard floor, just like most other rooms in the house, the rug will add that finishing touch.
Where to place your bedroom rug
Placing your rug depends on the size of your room.  If you have a large room with a lot of space, you can use the rug to zone a specific area, perhaps a reading chair or the space you may practice yoga.
Or you may just want a rug at either side of the bed so that on cold mornings you can rest your feet on a warm rug rather than a cold floor.  You may want it at the end of the bed which makes it a design statement of its own.
What colour should you choose
If you have bedroom in a neutral colour such as white, cream or grey – and if you have similarly coloured curtains and beddings – the rug is the perfect accessory to add your favourite pop of colour.  This then allows you to pick out a few more pieces in the colour to add interest – a red lamp, a red pillow, a red vase on the dressing table.

If your bedroom already has several colours, a plain coloured rug can actually anchor the whole scheme.  For example, if you have a red wallpaper, a red rug will pull the whole room together.
Type or rug
If you are prone to allergies, the best hypo-allergenic fibre you can choose is a 100% wool rug.  Rug ticks all the boxes when it comes being ‘green’.  It’s a sustainable resource, it’s made from natural fibre and it acts as a natural air filter which makes it the perfect choice for your sensitive allergies.  Wool rugs are also hard wearing and easy to clean.  They are the perfect choice for your bedroom.
So, whatever you get up to in your bedroom – do with a FrithRugs.

Shabby Chic Bedrooms

Trends come and go but there is no doubt that the shabby chic vintage interior design trend is a classic that will stand the test of time.

One room where shabby chic remains popular is the bedroom, probably because it is such a lovely romantic look that can work well in both a very contemporary space as well as a period home.

The vintage bedroom offer the perfect antidote to our busy, stressful lives and will help you to relax in style and imagine a time when life was not quite as frantic.

The main item of furniture in any bedroom is the bed.  If your bed doesn't have the right headboard for your vintage theme, Pinterest has lots of fabulous idea on how to make your own.  Then it's just a case of finishing the bed with the right bedding - cottage garden or white - along with some cushions and the central point of the room has been transformed.

French style furniture is ideal vintage but if this is out of your price range have a look in second hand shops and charity shops for older furniture that you can sand down and then paint white.

For the lighting, it has to be a chandelier of course and there are lots of fabulous options to choose from on the high street from budget to blow out.

Display pretty perfume bottles, print out your favourite images from a website or have black and white family photographs and then frame them and hang above a dressing table.  However, it's important to keep clutter to a minimum.

On the floor, bare floorboards are ideal but any hard wood flooring will be transformed with the addition of one of our stunning Aubusson rugs.  These are the perfect accessory for any shabby chic room and will really pull the look together.  Voila!

What will Prince Louis nursery look like?

When it comes to decorating their new baby's nursery - Kate and William already have experience in making their latest arrival feel welcome.  However, tastes change and so what Kate loved for Prince George, she may re-think for Prince Louis.

We have had a glimpse of life in the royal household and it's clear that clean, neutral lines are their preferred interiors look.  Another hint that they may love Scandi came when they couple were on their Scandinavian tour and they told Ikea's head of design how they had a few key pieces from the brand in Prince George's nursery.

So, what are the key pieces for a Scandi nursery?

The basic furniture - cot, nursing chair, changing table, wardrobe and chest of drawers should be white.

When we take about lighting, most interior blogs will advise letting in plenty of natural light but when it comes to a baby or toddlers room, you need to ensure that when it comes to nap time and bedtime, you block out as much light as possible.  Most retailers now sell black out blinds and curtains.

But we should remember that this is a baby’s nursery and so we don't want a total white out.  Babies and toddlers love primary colours and so adding pops of colour with well selected accessories will make the room fun and playful.

This could be on the bedding or found in favourite toys or books.

FrithRugs has some fabulous kids' rugs which feature bright colours that will liven up the netural room and which your baby and toddler will love.   From sailing boats to teddy bears, from flowers to fish, take a look at our kids' rugs to find inspiration for you baby, toddler and boys and girls.
