Spring/summer interior trends 2018

What's hot for your spring/summer interiors in 2018?

Well we say what's hot - perhaps we should be saying what's cool - ice cream cool as Gelato colours are going to be a huge trend this year.  So what's your favourite ice cream, vanilla, mint, pistachio, strawberry?  Now you can surround yourself with the flavours you love.

Gelato

The ice cream palette doesn't have to be a single colour either, who doesn't love layers of delicious ice cream like a Neapolitan - you
have it as a feature wall or just combine the colours using some well chosen accessories.

You can find vanilla, mint and strawberry in our plain carved range of rugs - and these plain rugs are perfect for pulling your interior design scheme together.

Gold

In 2017 the metallic trend was all the rage and it's still here but this time the metal of choice of gold.  Gold is softer than silver which makes it easier to use in your home decor.  It's also very
decadent and so the trick is to use sparingly.  This fabulous gold rug doesn't need too much as it could be overwhelming, perhaps a new gold trimmed mirror, a couple of gold framed windows and a gold lamp base.

Totally tropical

If you fancy going tropical then the trick is to layer different colours.  So use different coloured throws and cushions, think bright pink, yellow and blue.  Then choose a couple of tropical prints and pair with this fabulous tropical rug.   There really is                    no better way to say goodbye winter and hello summer then creating your own tropical paradise indoors.

Interior design trends for 2018

If you like your home to be as fashionable as your wardrobe, you'll want to know all about the interior design trends for 2018.

Our advice is to ensure that the expensive items in your home reflect your own personal style rather than a trend - so your sofa, your dining suite, your bookcase and so on, should be about what you love.  These are items that you will have to live with for a long time and most of us can't afford to change them every season.

However, you can easily bring any room bang up to date simply by changing accessories every year and that's why rugs are the perfect soft furnishing to reflect your passion for fashion.

Colours:

Dulux and Pantone are two big brands that release what they believe will be some of the hottest colours of the year.  Dulux says its warm pink called Heart Wood will be an important colour for homes in 2018 and they have four complementary colour palettes to help you co-ordinate.  This plain rug is a good starting point.

However, Pantone say that ultra violet is the colour for 2018 and so at least you have a choice - if you are not keen on one, you can opt for the other and still show off your trend credentials.

Natural:

Some interior designers are focusing on sustainability and recycling.  This means using natural materials where possible, cork on the walls and the floor will be popular.  From a rug perspective we have a selection of hemp rugs that will appeal to those who like natural products.  And if you are replacing an old rug with a new one, why not try the older rug in a different room?  The rug in your dining room could look fabulous in your bedroom - give it a try.

Minimal with colour:

Scandinavian style is still popular but sometimes that neutral colour palette needs an accent.  If you want to splash some colour into a neutral room, the best way to do this is with a rug in any vibrant colour.  This will help your space to feel luxurious and energetic.  Something from our Vibrance  collection would work.

Have fun creating your own style at home - and nobody needs to be a slave to fashion - you could start a new trend all of your own.

Interior design trends for 2017

What's hot for the well-dressed home this spring/summer? Most wardrobes will have at least one fashionable piece for the season and similarly every home should have at least item of furniture that is bang on trend.

Greenery has been named the 2017 Pantone colour of the year and its meant to refresh and revitalise - it's certainly a lovely cheery shade that will brighten up any room.

Patterns are also big this year.  Forget the usual rules of interior design when it comes to pattern feel free to mix and match.  A patterned rug, paisley cushions and zig zag curtains - you can go wild!

Tropical prints have been seen on the international catwalks and interior stylists often take their lead from fashionistas. These bold designs are not to everyone's taste and the easiest way to go tropical if with a rug while keeping most other furniture items quite plain.

Navy is the new black when you are looking for the perfect accent colour. It works brilliantly with most other colours and unlike black it won't make a room feel too small.

Finally, inventive geometrics that combine ancient culture with modern life are also a big theme for 2017. Simple lines and triangles are the key and our Moroccan style tribal rugs work the trend well.

What's hot for Spring/Summer 2015?

If the fashion industry has ‘the little black dress’ as its eternal, never ageing piece, our little black dress equivalent has to be our traditional rug designs, which remain consistently popular in homes big and small, modern and traditional.

But interior design, just like the catwalk, does have its trends and so we have scoured the news to see what top interior designers are saying is going to be the next big thing for Spring/Summer 2015 in the home.

According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, ‘painterly rugs’ are going to be big. Well that’s quite handy as our exclusive Ella Claire range includes a ‘floor paintings’ collection which feature visually fluid bold patterns. They are hand knotted in India and made from 80% wool and 20% silk which means they look and feel fabulous.  These rugs work particularly well in rectangular rooms and will break up your furniture into clearly defined zones.

Many interior designers say that the colour blue is going to be very popular.  What shade of blue? Well think moody blue and dark blue.  If you choose a blue rug shade, accessorise with white  or even silver to create a sophisticated living room or bedroom.

Kelly Hoppen says that mixing your metals is now acceptable.  She believes mixing warm metals, such as copper and rose gold, with cool ones like silver is bang on trend.  So dressing a room using just bronze or silver looks too staged, now you can mix and match to your hearts content.  As always, even in a modern, industrial themed space, a well selected rug will pull the look together. We think our contemporary shaggy rugs will do the job perfectly!

Finally, we Brits will also continue our passion for merging our outdoor and indoor living space when we can.  Summer houses, log cabins and conservatories continue to be big business and in these spring and summer spaces themes that work well include rustic and natural so  use wooden furniture with slate or stone accessories.

Or maybe you prefer a Mediterranean vibe – if so use colours that
are traditionally sunny such as orange and yellow.

Alternatively, you may prefer blurring the lines between the outside and the inside, in which case opt for accessories that reflect what’s happening in a well-tended garden, like this gorgeous floral rug from our Brink & Campman - Kaleidoscope range.

What do you think is hot for the coming year – we’d love to know.
