Shaggy rugs will winter proof your home

Winter is not all bad.  There is something to be said for closing the curtains on a cold, dark winter night and getting lovely and cosy in your warm, snug home.

And just how cosy and snug your room feels, can often depend on what you have on your floor.  If you have a hard floor, while it may be stylish and elegant for spring and summer, it does lack warmth in autumn and winter. One way to change that is with the addition of a well-chosen rug.  And even if your floor is carpeted, adding a rug will add more depth and comfort.

So which rug should you choose for the perfect winter warmer?  It' got to be a shaggy rug of course!  Here at FrithRugs we have lots of fabulous shaggy rugs to suit every room and every style.

Let's start with our polyester shaggy rugs which are the rugs to choose if you want colour in your rug. These rugs are handmade in China and offer colours to suit many home interiors including red, blue and green.  Perfect for the season.
The Scandinavian or ‘Scandi’ interior design theme is always popular and if this is the look you want then your shaggy rug should ideally be white or cream.  You can choose from the classic sheepskin rug which let’s face it will always look stunning in front of a roaring fire or even as a throw on the bed or sofa.

Flokati rugs are graded by the weight of the wool (in grams) per square meter of the rug. As such you will see different grades ranging from 1,500g to 3,000g. What this means is that the more wool present in a rug, the heavier it is. And the heavier the rug is, the higher the grade.  We offer three grades to choose from.
If you want a rug on your floor that feels as good as it looks then we have plenty more shaggy rug designs and styles to choose from. Browse our winter warmers  yourself and winter proof your room. https://frithrugs.co.uk/products/shaggies/

And so to bed

Soft thick rugs are ideal
by the bed

Having trouble sleeping?  Did you know your bedroom could cause problems nodding off?

Let’s start with the colour.  Experts say that colour really does have an impact on your mood and so while red, yellow and black may keep you awake at night, shades of blue and green are renowned for their calming and soothing features.

In most other rooms in the house, interior design experts will tell you to let the natural light flood in.  However, the opposite is true in the bedroom.  You need to make sure you have thick curtains that block out daylight.  Ideally have dimmer switches on your artificial lighting to keep them low as you climb into bed and turn them up high when you want to wake up and get dressed.

These bright rugs are
great to help you
wake up.
Other accessories are just as relevant.  Texture is important in a bedroom as it is such a multi functional space.  By night, the place you wind down, relax and sleep and by day, the space where you wake up and prepare yourself for whatever the next 12 hours is going to throw at you.

And so use accessories and different textures to help zone the different areas. By the bed, soft, thick rugs are the perfect floor covering for when you get in and out of bed.

By day, why not put a practical, bright rug near your dressing table or wardrobe?  This will highlight the space as an area where you mean business as you prepare for the day ahead.

Colour co-ordinate your rugs, curtains and bedding so that the room has an inclusive feel within the specific zones.

Night, night.

What's hot for Spring/Summer 2015?

If the fashion industry has ‘the little black dress’ as its eternal, never ageing piece, our little black dress equivalent has to be our traditional rug designs, which remain consistently popular in homes big and small, modern and traditional.

But interior design, just like the catwalk, does have its trends and so we have scoured the news to see what top interior designers are saying is going to be the next big thing for Spring/Summer 2015 in the home.

According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, ‘painterly rugs’ are going to be big. Well that’s quite handy as our exclusive Ella Claire range includes a ‘floor paintings’ collection which feature visually fluid bold patterns. They are hand knotted in India and made from 80% wool and 20% silk which means they look and feel fabulous.  These rugs work particularly well in rectangular rooms and will break up your furniture into clearly defined zones.

Many interior designers say that the colour blue is going to be very popular.  What shade of blue? Well think moody blue and dark blue.  If you choose a blue rug shade, accessorise with white  or even silver to create a sophisticated living room or bedroom.

Kelly Hoppen says that mixing your metals is now acceptable.  She believes mixing warm metals, such as copper and rose gold, with cool ones like silver is bang on trend.  So dressing a room using just bronze or silver looks too staged, now you can mix and match to your hearts content.  As always, even in a modern, industrial themed space, a well selected rug will pull the look together. We think our contemporary shaggy rugs will do the job perfectly!

Finally, we Brits will also continue our passion for merging our outdoor and indoor living space when we can.  Summer houses, log cabins and conservatories continue to be big business and in these spring and summer spaces themes that work well include rustic and natural so  use wooden furniture with slate or stone accessories.

Or maybe you prefer a Mediterranean vibe – if so use colours that
are traditionally sunny such as orange and yellow.

Alternatively, you may prefer blurring the lines between the outside and the inside, in which case opt for accessories that reflect what’s happening in a well-tended garden, like this gorgeous floral rug from our Brink & Campman - Kaleidoscope range.

What do you think is hot for the coming year – we’d love to know.
