Forget Hygge, we're all Lagomers now

So just as we have all got used to the Danish concept of Hygge, we are now being introduced to the concept of Lagom.  The loose translation of Lagom is 'not too much, not too  little' which neatly explains how you could introduce the idea into your own interior design style.
It's definitely an idea whose time has come as Lagom is all about creating a better, happier, and more balanced everyday life. It's about sustainable living, saving energy and water and creating less waste by recycling more.  And as 22nd April is Mother Earth Day we thought now was a great time to talk about becoming a Lagomer.
At home instead of throwing out your old things be they clothes or furniture, think if they can be re-used, given away or up-cycled.  When you do buy new products try to find sustainable goods such as bamboo furniture or hemp rugs.
Our hemp rugs are really popular and feature both hemp and jute which are natural plant fibres. Hemp is particularly eco-friendly as it is a plant that grows quickly with little or no chemical fertilisers.  Jute, a relative of hemp, is one of the most natural fibres around and together these two plant extracts have been used in textiles for many thousands of years.

Both hemp and jute are durable and versatile which makes them a great rug choice.  This collection is particularly suitable for high traffic areas, both indoors and outdoors and is perfect for summer.

The hypoallergenic, natural anti-bacterial and non-irritating quality of these rugs also makes them a popular choice for people suffering from asthma and other allergies.

Spring/summer interior trends 2018

What's hot for your spring/summer interiors in 2018?

Well we say what's hot - perhaps we should be saying what's cool - ice cream cool as Gelato colours are going to be a huge trend this year.  So what's your favourite ice cream, vanilla, mint, pistachio, strawberry?  Now you can surround yourself with the flavours you love.

Gelato

The ice cream palette doesn't have to be a single colour either, who doesn't love layers of delicious ice cream like a Neapolitan - you
have it as a feature wall or just combine the colours using some well chosen accessories.

You can find vanilla, mint and strawberry in our plain carved range of rugs - and these plain rugs are perfect for pulling your interior design scheme together.

Gold

In 2017 the metallic trend was all the rage and it's still here but this time the metal of choice of gold.  Gold is softer than silver which makes it easier to use in your home decor.  It's also very
decadent and so the trick is to use sparingly.  This fabulous gold rug doesn't need too much as it could be overwhelming, perhaps a new gold trimmed mirror, a couple of gold framed windows and a gold lamp base.

Totally tropical

If you fancy going tropical then the trick is to layer different colours.  So use different coloured throws and cushions, think bright pink, yellow and blue.  Then choose a couple of tropical prints and pair with this fabulous tropical rug.   There really is                    no better way to say goodbye winter and hello summer then creating your own tropical paradise indoors.

How about an oval rug?

FrithRugs offer rugs in a variety of shapes and so with Easter almost upon us, we thought we would share the benefits an oval shaped rug could bring to your room.

The Easter bank holiday is often the time people decide to spring clean their home and garden for the start of spring and summer.  One of the quickest and easiest ways to give your room a new look for the season is with the addition of a new rug.I f you are planning to buy a new rug any time soon think about something different to the usual rectangular shaped rug you always buy - your room could actually look better with an oval rug. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the difference a new rug can make to your room at minimum cost and effort.

Show off

An oval rug shape works well if you have a particular item of furniture that you want to show off - and both the rug and the furniture will become a focal point in the room. FrithRugs offer rounded rugs in both traditional and modern designs and so you are sure to find a rug to suit your home.

As a general rule, in a living room, try to make sure that all the main pieces of furniture, usually the sofa or an armchair, touch the circumference of the rug as it adds a sense of symmetry. If you have a large space you can use different rugs and different shaped rugs to highlight specific zones in the room.

In a bedroom an oval rug is lovely either at the foot of the bed or at the side of a bed.  Again if you have a large space you can use the rug to zone a particular area such as a reading or relaxation zone.

Nooks and crannies

Our customers also like our oval rugs for all those nooks and crannies – they work really well in a bay window as you can imagine.  And if you have a room that is quite angular with geometric or straight lines, an oval shaped rug will will really soften it.

So, this Easter come into store or browse online and treat yourself to an home accessory that will make your room feel eggciting again (sorry we couldn't resist!)  All our stores are closed on Easter Sunday.

Give mum flowers that will last a lifetime

It will soon be Mother’s Day (March 11th) and most mums, grandmothers, aunties and sisters appreciate a floral tribute.  This year, why not give them flowers that will last a lifetime and treat them to a fabulous floral rug from FrithRugs.

Let's get tropical:  If your mum loves big and bold and enjoys making a statement then she would love something from our Nourison Tropical collections. These lush, tropical blooms will take centre stage and so any other floral accessories should take more of a supporting role

Traditional Chinese Rugs
Perhaps your mum is more of a traditionalist?  If so, she may prefer something from our Chinese rug collection - she could have her very own Oriental garden inside.  Our Chinese floral rugs sit well within both a modern and period design scheme and are available in a variety of colours and shapes to fit most room types.

If you are not sure what colour to choose for your mum then green is one of nature's most abundant colours for spring and is guaranteed to bring the outside in.  It is rejuvenating and welcoming and if you think a floral rug may not suit the lady in your life, choose a plain green instead.

English country garden
If your mum or grandma prefers more of an English country garden style and something more subtle we recommend something from our Ella Claire collection which is exclusively available to FrithRugs. Some  of these designs bring to mind a typical cottage garden which your mum may prefer.

We are confident you will find the perfect floral tribute among our floral rug collections.  FrithRugs floral rugs provide the inspiration needed to help blur the boundary between house and garden. And if your Mum loves flowers, these are bouquets that will stand the test of time.

As the trend for bare staircases is falling out of favour, consumers are looking for stair carpet that reflects their home and their lifestyle.

Well it’s no surprise that our advice is period homes should stick to traditional designs, while newer properties and modern interior designs schemes  can go for something more contemporary.  And if you still like the idea of a bare stair, opt for a stair runner rather than a fitted carpet - and you can enjoy the bare stair look but without the noise and cold.

At FrithRug we offer lots of staircarpet designs to choose from. Traditional designs such as the Konia collection stair runners are 100% wool and based and based on original Persian designs.  The range features a lot of red and gold and so looks very grand and luxurious, making it ideal for period homes and homes with sweeping staircases.

Or you may prefer the stylish and classical Kasbah stair carpet. Manufactured using only the best raw materials for exceptional quality. These heavyweight carpets have a high quality, dense 100% polypropylene pile and are suitable for heavy traffic areas.  Available in a range of patterns and colourways, it’s a great choice for families.

More modern homes will prefer The Avenue collection, a hard wearing mix of 80% wool and 20% Polymide and great for busy homes.  From one colour designs to stripes and patterns, this is perfect for contemporary living.

If you do prefer one colour, then take a look at our Elysee collection, a hard wearing 100% wool, machine woven range. The designs are traditional with a slightly modern twist and these blocks of colour with all add warmth to your staircase or hallway.

Indian Indulgence

One of the quickest and easiest ways to introduce a flavour of India to any room is with the addition of an Indian rug.

India is a hugely diverse nation and so it stands to reason there is not really one single style that will reflect it.  With a culture that is thousands of years old, it’s not difficult to introduce Indian influences - there are such a lot to choose from and as the home of traditional rugs, you will find a huge selection of Indian flavours to choose from.

 Traditional rugs

From the exceptional detail found in our Fine Indo Persian collection    rugs to the original Persian patterns found in our Keshan collection -      from the gorgeous look and touch of our Jaipur Silk Mix to the                classic Emperor designs which will grace any home, traditionalists        will find a design to suit their needs.

   Modern rugs

And we haven’t forgotten those who want a more modern Indian rug.We have a collection of bold, bright Kelims  which will add a splash of contemporary colour and design to a room, while the block colours found in our Dhurrie flat weave rugs will pull your interior design theme together.

India is all about colour.  We love all the colours found in our Indian rugs - they remind us of the spices that India is so famous for.  Bright red, burnt orange, sunny yellow, it’s not hard to reinvigorate a boring British lounge with an exotic taste of India.  Once you have your rug insitu, select a couple of colours from that and use it to add a couple more Indian pieces.

Perhaps the classic Buddha, or some paisley patterned cushions and throws on the sofa?  Don’t forget some well-placed metal hanging l lamps or tea light holders and some hand painted elephant ornaments.

Interior design trends for 2018

If you like your home to be as fashionable as your wardrobe, you'll want to know all about the interior design trends for 2018.

Our advice is to ensure that the expensive items in your home reflect your own personal style rather than a trend - so your sofa, your dining suite, your bookcase and so on, should be about what you love.  These are items that you will have to live with for a long time and most of us can't afford to change them every season.

However, you can easily bring any room bang up to date simply by changing accessories every year and that's why rugs are the perfect soft furnishing to reflect your passion for fashion.

Colours:

Dulux and Pantone are two big brands that release what they believe will be some of the hottest colours of the year.  Dulux says its warm pink called Heart Wood will be an important colour for homes in 2018 and they have four complementary colour palettes to help you co-ordinate.  This plain rug is a good starting point.

However, Pantone say that ultra violet is the colour for 2018 and so at least you have a choice - if you are not keen on one, you can opt for the other and still show off your trend credentials.

Natural:

Some interior designers are focusing on sustainability and recycling.  This means using natural materials where possible, cork on the walls and the floor will be popular.  From a rug perspective we have a selection of hemp rugs that will appeal to those who like natural products.  And if you are replacing an old rug with a new one, why not try the older rug in a different room?  The rug in your dining room could look fabulous in your bedroom - give it a try.

Minimal with colour:

Scandinavian style is still popular but sometimes that neutral colour palette needs an accent.  If you want to splash some colour into a neutral room, the best way to do this is with a rug in any vibrant colour.  This will help your space to feel luxurious and energetic.  Something from our Vibrance  collection would work.

Have fun creating your own style at home - and nobody needs to be a slave to fashion - you could start a new trend all of your own.
