All eyes on the dining room

Whether you are a family of 2 or 22, chances are at special times of the year like this, it’s all eyes on the dining room.  Even if your dining room is rarely used, when it comes to special events, sitting in front of the telly with a meal on your knee just won’t cut it.

Transforming your dining room into a celebratory space does not have to take up too much time – or money.  If this is a room that is rarely used, it may have become a dumping ground for family bits and pieces and so one of the first things to do will be de-clutter and clean.

The next thing to do is to consider a theme that will work with your existing décor and the most obvious thing to use as a starting point is the colour.  If you have a neutral colour palette then keep your theme natural and avoid bright colours.  Fill a bowl or vase with glass baubles and pine cones and use this as your main table dressing.  This neutral rug will maintain the theme as well as adding depth and warmth to the floor.

If you have a bold colour theme then enhance it with table dressings of candy canes in a glass vase complemented with red and white baubles.  You don’t need to buy expensive table napkins or tablecloths as you can find lovely bright colours in the paper versions which are ideal for a one off occasion.  To ensure your flooring matches the rest of the room, this rug is just the ticket.

If your existing décor is moor dark and atmospheric you can continue the drama with lots of candles and dress the table with fresh foliage, dark baubles and ribbons.  This purple rug will add to the mood.

Enjoy your meal!

Shaggy rugs will winter proof your home

Winter is not all bad.  There is something to be said for closing the curtains on a cold, dark winter night and getting lovely and cosy in your warm, snug home.

And just how cosy and snug your room feels, can often depend on what you have on your floor.  If you have a hard floor, while it may be stylish and elegant for spring and summer, it does lack warmth in autumn and winter. One way to change that is with the addition of a well-chosen rug.  And even if your floor is carpeted, adding a rug will add more depth and comfort.

So which rug should you choose for the perfect winter warmer?  It' got to be a shaggy rug of course!  Here at FrithRugs we have lots of fabulous shaggy rugs to suit every room and every style.

Let's start with our polyester shaggy rugs which are the rugs to choose if you want colour in your rug. These rugs are handmade in China and offer colours to suit many home interiors including red, blue and green.  Perfect for the season.
The Scandinavian or ‘Scandi’ interior design theme is always popular and if this is the look you want then your shaggy rug should ideally be white or cream.  You can choose from the classic sheepskin rug which let’s face it will always look stunning in front of a roaring fire or even as a throw on the bed or sofa.

Flokati rugs are graded by the weight of the wool (in grams) per square meter of the rug. As such you will see different grades ranging from 1,500g to 3,000g. What this means is that the more wool present in a rug, the heavier it is. And the heavier the rug is, the higher the grade.  We offer three grades to choose from.
If you want a rug on your floor that feels as good as it looks then we have plenty more shaggy rug designs and styles to choose from. Browse our winter warmers  yourself and winter proof your room. https://frithrugs.co.uk/products/shaggies/

Looking for a timeless rug?

Here at FrithRugs we are always adding to a rug collections and one of our latest additions is the Timeless Collection.

When it comes to describing this stunning range, the name says it all.  These are contemporary rugs that are truly timeless thanks to their grey colour palette, modern textures and artistic pattern.

We love the ombre effect created by these machine made rugs, which create a 3D-esque design which will ensure any room has a cosy and warm feel.

We always say that grey is such a flexible colour and these rugs are no exception.  If you want a modern interior design it can sometimes look a little cold - these rugs will add the warmth that a neutral colour scheme can lack.

If however, you want a hint of drama you could use black, dark grey and silver to create a great impact.

You could even add pops of bold colour in your other home furnishings - but whatever your design style it will be all eyes on the floor with one of these fabulous Timeless Rugs.

Let's get nice and cosy at home

It's the end of British summer time and officially winter is upon us.  That means dark mornings and shorter days - but at this time of year, there is something to be said for coming home in the evening, drawing your curtains and getting lovely and cosy.

If you have a hard floor, it may be stylish and elegant for spring and summer, but come the autumn-winter and that floor needs warming up with a well-chosen rug.  Having the right floor covering is going to impact on just how cosy you feel and that's why choosing the right rug is more important than ever right now.

So, what are the interior design trends for the new season.

Oversized florals

If you love floral, it's a case of the bigger the better this season.  We have several rugs that will make a striking statement in your living room or dining room and it's easy to bring the look together with some complementing accessories.  If you like your florals dark, you can create a really moody atmosphere with a bold design - although accessorise carefully to avoid making your room seem dreary.

Pretty in Pink

On the oppose end of the scale dusty pink is also bang on trend.  The trick here is to use various shades of pink to ensure it has a grown up look.  Mix and match subtle shades with vibrant shades of the colour and your room won't look overly feminine. You can start with a rug and then add a pink faux fur throw, cushions and fairy lights.

Maple

You've seen the gorgeous colours in the leaves that nature has created - so do the same indoors.  Think tones of burnt orange and warm browns to give your room a lovely autumnal glow.  Start with a new rug and then introduce the colour in a few well chosen pieces.  We are a real fan of maple as adds a touch of the Med in the summer but brings warmth and cheer in the winter.

Orange is not just for Hallowen

Have you ever wondered why orange is associated with #Halloween?  There are numerous different theories, some say it’s because it’s the colour of autumn, while others say it’s a colour the Celts wore in battle. One thing is for sure - it’s a lovely colour to use at #home.

Orange in the sitting room is the perfect colour for all seasons. Get the right tone and it will be provide a hint of the Med in the summer but will keep you lovely and warm in the winter.  The trick is to use orange sparingly on accessories such as rugs, cushions and throws.  Don’t be afraid to use lots of pattern in those accessories providing your main furniture items are quite simple.

Homeowners are often keen to use red in a dining room - but orange will create a fabulous ambience. If you want to create a moody, earthy tone, perfect for candle lit dinners then go for burnt orange tones and wooden furniture. Even a period dining room will suit dark orange as its earthy tones work well with traditional rugs and open fires.

If you have a conservatory, an orange rug will work really well, especially if you have exposed brick walls and real wood floors. Again, carefully selected accessories will help set the tone for the time of year.  A bright orange rug gives will suggest the warming rays of the sun, something more muted is will give a warm glow in the autumn/winter.  Perfect for curling up with a good book.

We all know that oranges are packed with Vitamin C and if you choose orange at home it will be an instant pick me up thanks to its zesty, bright appeal and that’s why it’s probably best used in day time rooms.

Where ever you decide to use orange, the message is clear - it's not a colour to be scared of.

We're pleased to be going grey!

Going grey?  We hope so, because grey is one of our most popular colour choices and remains a big interior design hit.

Once you have discovered the joys of grey in interiors there really is no going back which is why we have added so many new rugs to our hugely popular grey collections.

Our Vintage Rug collection offers  abstract rugs which will give your room an industrial feel.  They have taken their inspiration from the streets of New York City and are the perfect choice for apartment and loft living.  As well as looking fabulous, they feel fabulous too, offering a  soft, luxurious texture for a unique interior design statement.

The Natural Woven Collection features 100% wool rugs that will look good in any room.  Perfect in front of a contemporary fireplace in the living room, ideal for your grown up dining room and always professional in the home office or den.

Upstairs, one of these grey beauties will give a bathroom a very modern feel while in the bedroom, it's the perfect accessory to your fresh, crisp bedlinen.

This collection offers some clever designs that will sit well in a modern room set.  We like them with  faux fur throws and cushions, silver/steel floor lanterns, over sized glass vases and large mirrors.

However, they work just as well in a period setting as grey brings an elegance and sophistication to the home. If you want to browse our full grey collections, just put 'grey' into the search box in the top right hand corner of our web page.

Going grey has never been so much fun.

Fall in love with wool

It’s #WoolWeek and here at FrithRugs we don't need much of an excuse to celebrate this fabulous natural fibre which forms so many of our collections.

Whether you want neutral, modern, shaggy or traditional we have a 100% wood rug that you will love.
According to The Campaign for Wool –  wool has loads going for it.

It is 100% natural and totally renewable.  It is also biodegradable, and can be released back into the soil where it will decompose and release valuable nutrients back into the ground.

And a wool rug  is a natural insulator and will help to keep your room lovely and cosy.  Its resilient and its elastic fibres mean your rug won’t lose its shape giving your rug a long lifespan if properly cared for. This means keeping it away from direct sunlight and taking care of any spillages right away. You should also invest in suitable underlay to protect the back of the rug.

If you have allergies, your wool rug will help by reducing floating dust in the atmosphere.  The fibres microscopic scales are able to trap and hold dust in the top layers until vacuumed away and we advise using a suction only vacuum cleaner once a week

FrithRugs offers a staggering collection of wool rugs across its collections and it's easy to browse the rug choices and see the wonders of wool for yourself.  Give your home the wow factor with a brand new wool rug and to learn this fabulous fibre wool visit The Campaign for Wool website for even many incredible woolly facts.

Recreate Vanity Fair at home

If you have been hooked on the new TV Drama Vanity Fair, chances are that as well as the storyline, you will be lapping up the fabulous costumes, homes and decor.

The book is set between 1810-1820  when George IV was Prince Regent - hence it's known as the Regency period.  This is just before Queen Victoria and all those straight laced Victorian morals were imposed - and for now at least, British society was more open and less inhibited.

Due to growing trade links with the rest of the world, there was lots of consumer choice when it came to interior design and homeowners could even browse through forerunners of the modern catalogue using pattern books.

Harmony and symmetry were the order of the day and people were becoming very interested in nature and how they interacted with it.

Popular colours were burgundy, sage green and blue grey and interestingly these colours are being replicated by modern pain manufacturers today.

Wallpaper was imported from the Far East so anything with a Chinosierie feel to it would be in keeping and this love of all things Oriental was also replicated on the floor.   Most homes would have wooden floors although the grander houses would boast stone or marble floors.

While we can't help you with the wallpaper or furniture - as the rug retailer that is synonymous with traditional rugs, FrithRugs is the only place to shop for your Oriental rug. As well as a great choice of design,  many of our Chinese rugs come in a variety of sizes and shapes including circular, octagonal and even half moon.

Order your personalised rug now in time for Christmas

Christmas will be here sooner than you think and it's never too early to start planning, especially if you are thinking of a personalised gift for your children, grandchildren, nephews or nieces.

Personalising a child’s room is very popular.  From a name plate on the door to a large letter on a shelf, individual accessories will stand the test of time which is why personalised rugs are also some of our best sellers.

Customers can add any name to our select rug collection and the names, which can be a first name, family name or even a nick name, can be added in a straight line or a semi-circle and will make a unique gift for a nursery, kids or teenager's room.   Personalised rugs are also a good idea if you have children sharing a bedroom as they can help mark out ‘territory’ and hopefully stop sibling arguments.

And the reason we are raising the topic of Christmas in September is because personalised kids rugs can take between 10 - 14 weeks to make and so you need to order now to get them delivered in time for Christmas.

Of course, you may not want to personalise your kids rugs and if this is the case we have lots of fabulous kids designs available in stock.  From numbers to cars - from footballs to boats - from fairies to flowers and from butterflies to princesses - you are sure to find a design that suits your little one.

Quality is obviously important and our rugs are 100% wool, handmade in India and are exclusive to FrithRugs.http://frithrugs.co.uk/  Our stock rugs are available as a 1.22m x .76m sized rug and retail at £79.  Our personalised rugs start from £79.00 for a 0.90 x 0.60m rug.
